Phytosociology, dynamics, synusia, heritage assessment, ecology, vegetation, flora, bioindicators, systemic, structuralism, multivariate analyzes, ecological valences, chorology, terroirs, spatial scales, taxonomy, databases, plants, algae, bryophytes.

The research activities have always been maintained despite the teaching load (more than 300 hours/year), the expertise or the representation of regional and international organizations. They have resulted in the realization of about ninety scientific publications and the public availability of many original data (downloadable on the personal website and on Tela-Botanica.org). We can mention the ecological, chorological and botanical Index of the Flora of France (baseflor) which contains more than 6000 taxa, the synonymic repertory of the plant groups of France (baseveg) which cites more than 3500 names, the world list of peatland plants (holarctic, tropical and southern lists of vascular plants and bryophytes), the departmental chorology and departmental synchorology lists, which indicate the plants and plant groups present in each French department, the algae database of France, the bryophytes database of France, various cross-referenced animal and vegetation databases (birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, fish, molluscs, odonates, lepidopterans, marine benthos).

The research activities are mainly articulated around several poles:

-the flora and vegetation of France (description of habitats, ecology and chorology of species, floristic statistics…);

-the flora, vegetation and functioning of peatlands worldwide (world lists of peatland plants, synthesis of holarctic peatland vegetation, functional aspects);

-the flora, vegetation and biocenology of functional ecological networks, with the examples of ponds and estuaries, vertical ecosystems, linear and point ecosystems;

-landscape phytosociology and the terroirs of France;

-cooperative networks.

As an expert at the University of Neuchâtel, the implementation and monitoring of research programs on landscape assessment and management (“wooded pastures”, “peatlands”, “alluvial forests”) has been carried out. As an associate researcher, participations in international meetings resulting from the COMETT program on bioindication, developed by the University of Lille 2 (Faculty of Pharmacy, Botany laboratory) have been noted.

Participation in the biannual meetings of the IMCG (International Mire Conservation Group) and drafting of a report on the state of conservation of peatlands in France, as well as the French resolutions intended for the ministries concerned. In this framework, in charge of the projects ” Mire Botanical Classification at World Scale ” & ” World Mire Plant Species List “. Within the framework of the work groups of the European Commission, representation of the position of the peatland protectors for the commission meetings concerning the criteria for the definition of ecolabels. Organization of the XIIth Biennial Symposium of the IMCG (400 members from 60 countries) which took place for the first time in France in July 2002 (itinerant transect Massif Central – Jura, 60 participants from more than 15 countries, organizing committee of 10 members plus 5 local teams). Writing of the French chapter of “The European mire book”.

Representation of the IMCG at the EHF (European Habitats Forum, consortium of several international non-governmental organizations involved in nature protection: IUCN, WWF, Birdlife International, Wetlands International, European Environmental Bureau, European Union for Coastal Conservation, Eurosite, Federation of Nature Parks of Europe, Euronature, FERN, IMCG) The EHF meets in Brussels and organizes the consideration of the objectives of non-governmental associations to the European Commission. The EHF has official observer status with several commissions and is represented on the Habitats Directive Scientific Working Group (SWG) set up by the European Commission’s DG XI. The SWG gives expert advice on the technical aspects of the implementation of the Directive 92/43 EEC in Europe.

Intervention as scientific expert coordinator of the “Espaces Naturels de France” in the framework of a cooperation project between France and Estonia-Latvia for the implementation of a network of protected and managed areas concerning the peatlands of these countries (FFEM, MAE, MATE, Life EE funding).
